In 1880, Poznań’s first regular horse-drawn tram entered service, marking the beginning of public transport in the city. To mark its 145th anniversary, the Municipal Transport Company in Poznań published “Microcosm. 145 Years of Public Transport in Poznań”, telling the company’s history through people for whom trams, buses and related archives have become a lifelong passion.

The title “Microcosm” refers to the separate worlds of the people featured in the book, built from models, photographs, paintings, documents, memories and stories. They share a common centre – public transport in Poznań. This turns the anniversary into a story of fascination passed from person to person, rather than merely a sequence of dates and vehicle models.

Each person has a clearly defined section within the shared rhythm of the book. Numbers, forms inspired by route boards, directions and recurring markings bring the language of public transport into the editorial design. Photographs by Mariusz Forecki retain the documentary character of the story and show the protagonists surrounded by their collections and models.

We handled the graphic concept, publication design, typesetting, typography and visual materials. The editorial system brought photographs, archives and individual stories together in a coherent structure for the Municipal Transport Company in Poznań’s anniversary book.
