Commissioned by Chroma printing house, we developed several original calendar concepts – from the theme and its interpretation to the visual concept. The client selected three for production. This case presents one of them: a calendar devoted to forgotten legends from different cultures.
The calendar explores legends that use symbols, fantastical figures and extraordinary events to show how different cultures have tried to describe nature, fears, dreams and the unseen. Although they come from distant cultures, they spark the imagination and open up space for new interpretations.
We translated each of the twelve stories into a separate illustration. Rather than depicting the legends literally, we selected their most distinctive motifs and built concise images around them. Colour, rhythm and form give each page its own mood – from mystery and unease to lightness and humour.
A fixed typographic and calendar layout connects the twelve illustrations into one series. The calendar moves through different stories and cultures while preserving each story’s character and the publication’s overall coherence.
